It will be an interesting and exciting last week of July for China Glory Cycling. The Chinese team competes in three different races in the north of Spain within five days.
On the July 25, China Glory lines up for the Prueba Vilafranca. The Wednesday after sees the start of the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, a two-day stage race. On the 31st of July, the team is up for the Circuito de Getxo, starting in Bilbao.
“It is a good continuation of our first racing season,” general manager Maarten Tjallingii says ahead of the Spanish races, “and a good preparation for the races ahead. We are up for an exciting second half of the season.”
For the first competition in Spain, Nazaerbieke Bieken, Reinier Honig, Etienne van Empel, Willie Smit, Xianjing Lyu and Changquan Xu line up in the red colors of the Chinese team. For Castilla y Leon, Sean Bennett is added to the lineup and Lucas de Rossi replaces Xu.
Xu will be back in the Circuito de Getxo, where Hayden Strong will also start. For Bieken and Ly, Castilla y Leon is the last race in July.
The team trained well for the second half of the season, with meet-ups of riders in Andorra and Nice. “The Chinese riders have developed since their last races,” Tjallingii says. “Physically they improved and they learned more and more about racing in Europe. I am curious to see how it plays out in Spain.”
Lyu is also excited to return to racing. “We have trained hard lately. I feel stronger now. I am curious to compare myself to the competition in the next races.”
Sports Director Lionel Marie is also curious. “As always, we are bringing a diverse team to the start. We hope to be competitive in every single race we start this month.”
