China Glory Cycling rounded off its first race in its history with a top 10 in the general classification. In the Tour of Turkey, Sean Bennett showed his class during all the hilly and mountainous stages, resulting in an eighth place in GC.
The last stage was cancelled, due to the weather conditions.
The American was happy with his result, however, he did think it could have been a top-5 if everything would have gone his way. “I am still a little bit disappointed after yesterday’s stage, as I think I could have given the team a top 5 in GC, but eighth is also good and I am proud to get this result in the first race of the team.”
All Chinese riders managed to finish their first professional, European cycling race. Xianjing Lyu showed class by being capable of following the top riders in the stages. Nazaerbieke Bieken evolved into a great team member throughout the week. Changquan Xu was especially helpful in the flat stages.
Team manager Han Feng said it was a huge accomplishment for the team. “Before this race, we would have wished for results like these. It’s great for the team to have to top 10, and I am especially proud of the Chinese riders.”
Maarten Tjallingii agreed with Han Feng. “This has been a great start of a project that we hope to develop quickly. The Tour of Turkey became a big success for CGS, and with this experience, we can continue to develop.”
